How to get update files for the "ATM SYSTEM^©" through the Internet

Introduction

ATM is making daily update files available through the Internet for those users who are already accessing the Internet and as an alternative to reduce transmission costs for users who receive via FM.

In order to obtain update files from ATM by the Internet you need the following:

• A computer with a high speed fax-modem board (better than 14.400 bps, preferably 28.800 bps);
• Access to an Internet access vendor with a PPP or SLIP protocol to get access to the "World Wide Web";
• Configure the WWW browser to receive and save files with an atm extension and
• Connect to the Internet access vendor daily, transfer the file made available by ATM and make your daily update.

How to update your "ATM SYSTEM^©" daily

• Connect to his Internet access vendor,
• Access ATM's home page, which is http://www.atmsys.net,
• Select the Services page,
• Select the file which is required to be transferred in the section "ATM SYSTEM update files"
  ATM makes available the last 5 update files, the most recent being the first ones.
  The files have the date when they were first made available by ATM and right after, the description referring to the date of reference for the data, for example:
  

  25/03/96 - File with data bank for the 22/03/96
  22/03/96 - File with data bank for the 21/03/96
  21/03/96 - File with data bank for the 20/03/96

• The browser will show a dialog box asking for the destination for the chosen file.
  Choose the directory of the ATM system a then the subdirectory Arquivos, for example:

  C:\ATM\ARQUIVOS

• Click on OK to make the transfer,
• Wait for the transfer to finish,
• Disconnect from the Internet vendor,
• Activate the "ATM SYSTEM^©"
• In the Sistema menu select Atualizar and then select Arquivo convertido do difusor, and
• Wait for the end of the update.

This operation should be done daily and if possible, before the beginning of the stock session.

How to configure the WWW browser to receive ATM files

World Wide Web browsers such as Nescape, Mosaic, Cello etc. are prepared to visualize pages of text, drawings, photographs etc.
In addition, they can transfer files which are available on the WWW.

For this, we must inform the browser that certain files cannot be visualized but can be saved on the hard disk (HDD).

This operation should be done once only, before trying to transfer the first file.

We will now show the steps necessary for this configuration on Netscape, which is the browser most used in Brazil and the World.
For the others, the procedure is analogous but may have different command names.

• In the options menu in Netscape, select General Preferences... (or Preferences...)
• Select the ear on the Helpers (or Helper Apps)
• Click on the button Create New Type
• In the new dialog which was created:
  • type application in the place of Mime Type,
  • type atmsys in the place of Mime SubType,
  • click on the OK button,
• In the place of File Extensions, type atm,
• Select the button Save to Disk in the Action options,
• The dialog should show the following,
